HYDERABAD, India–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Wells Fargo Enterprise Global Services has recently won the CSR Award
for Community Development at the Hyderabad Software Enterprises
Association (HYSEA) annual summit. The award was in recognition of the
company’s effort to provide support to more than 3,000 beneficiaries in
10 educational institutions across Hyderabad and Bengaluru.
“It’s an honor for Wells Fargo to win this award,” said Prakriti Panwar,
head of corporate sustainability, Wells Fargo EGS. “This industry
recognition reinforces the belief that our organizational focus and
volunteer effort in creating social impact is heading in the right
direction,” she added.
Wells Fargo believes that education is the building block of society. By
focusing on the education of underprivileged youth, families can move
from poverty toward economic self-sufficiency and financial freedom.
Wells Fargo partners with non-government organizations (NGOs) to
intervene at multiple points of the educational journey, with programs
that define the holistic approach and strategy to reach children in all
age groups, from pre-primary to higher education. Wells Fargo also helps
provide support for vocational training and skill development for adults
to improve their livelihood.
With a core committee of 20 team members coordinating various company
CSR activities, and more than 3,000 active volunteers across Hyderabad,
Bengaluru, and Chennai, who put in more than 38,000 hours in 2016, Wells
Fargo is wholly committed to playing an active role in the communities
where our team members live and work.
The nature of Wells Fargo support depends on the needs of the school and
the domain expertise of the NGO partner. Generally, each initiative
falls within one of six categories: school infrastructure, quality of
teachers and teaching tools, parents’ and children’s attitudes toward
education and its benefits, education toward making the children ‘world
ready,’ continuity of education, health and general well-being.
Engagement highlights in the field of education
Through the Teach for India initiative in Bengaluru, Wells Fargo has
supported five teachers and classrooms impacting 200 children.
In partnership with NASSCOM Foundation National Digital Literacy
Missions, Wells Fargo introduced a computer literacy program in KR
Puram, Bengaluru, reaching close to 1,000 community members.
In Kothaguda government high school, Hyderabad, Wells Fargo helped to
institute an Accelerated Learning Program through their NGO partner,
Nirmaan, to teach children in grades six to eight about Mathematics and
English concepts using arts and crafts. In just one year, 85% of
students in this program moved up two grade levels from where they began.
Wells Fargo partnered with Meghashala, an NGO specialized in educational
videos that can be used in place of formal lessons, to enable schools to
move from teacher-led to student-led curriculum.
Wells Fargo also supported health and hygiene initiatives in beneficiary
schools, including breakfast programs, health camps, and sponsoring
janitor services.
Wells Fargo also supports schools in other ways, such as financing the
construction of lavatories, libraries, and computer labs. With Wells
Fargo’s assistance, a three-storey classroom building was constructed in
Hafeezpet government school, Hyderabad.
Together, we make better possible
Team member engagement is a large component of Wells Fargo’s community
service agenda. In 2016, Wells Fargo volunteers in India rendered over
38,000 volunteer hours, a 23% increase compared to last year. At the
beneficiary schools, Wells Fargo employees volunteer several times a
year and develop relationships with both the parents and the students,
encouraging them to stay committed to children’s schooling. Before the
beginning of every school year, Wells Fargo donates school bags
containing necessary supplies such as stationery and water bottles. The
bags are then distributed by team member volunteers across schools
identified by the NGO partners.
Team members also volunteer to bring students on field trips outside of
school, such as to the zoo or to the Wells Fargo office. Every year, an
inter-school competition sponsored by Wells Fargo and organized by Youth
for Sewa, an NGO partner, opens a platform for beneficiary school
students to showcase their talent and become ‘world ready.’ This event
is considered the highlight of the students’ school year and is eagerly
anticipated by all involved.
