Highly accomplished marketing veteran Fiona Carter will receive Ad Age’s Vanguard Award on Aug. 9 during this year’s Leading Women luncheon in Manhattan.

Carter, Goldman Sachs’ first chief marketing officer, is being honored for her decades-long career in marketing. The Vanguard Award, now in its fourth year, champions women like Carter who have blazed trails for women in the marketing and advertising worlds.

Carter handles brand marketing, content and digital strategy for Goldman Sachs. Before she joined the New York-based financial institution in 2020, she served as chief brand officer at AT&T for five years. While at AT&T, Carter stewarded a top-three US marketing budget to give the brand a major overhaul and grow the business through her innovative approach to marketing, data intelligence, social media brand safety and fostering diversity and inclusion throughout the marketing industry

Carter is also a champion of gender equality. During her time at AT&T, she helped the brand commit to advancing more positive representations of women in ads and implemented a gender equality scoring system to remove biases in advertising. As co-chair of the Association of National Advertisers’ SeeHer program for gender equity in marketing, Carter continues to reaffirm her commitment to gender equity and equality. In addition, Carter is a member of the Board of Directors for the Association of National Advertisers and Women’s Sports Foundation.

Carter was previously awarded the 2019 Ad Age Creativity Award for Diversity and Inclusion Champion of the Year.
