Virginia Beach Wells Fargo building to be razed, replaced by self-storage facility – The Virginian-Pilot

One of those orange signs has gone up in front of the former Wells Fargo bank building on Independence Boulevard. What’s happening?

Virginia Beach City Council recently approved a conditional use permit for a self-storage facility on that spot, near the intersection of Pleasure House Road and Independence Boulevard.

A three-story, climate-controlled mini-warehouse is expected to be built on the 1.3-acre lot, according to city planning documents. The permit allows a total floor area of 79,320 square feet.

The building height will vary in size from 22 feet 3 inches near the adjacent townhomes to 40 feet along Independence Boulevard.

The former Wells Fargo building at 1612 Independence Blvd. will be demolished with redevelopment of the site. A sign on the door directs customers to the branch at 699 Independence Blvd.
