Dr. Mei R. Fu will become the next dean of the School of Nursing at George Washington University. Dr. Mei R. Fu

Fu, an internationally recognized nurse scientist, researcher, and educator, has previously been a senior associate dean of nursing research and a professor at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey School of Nursing-Camden; the inaugural Barry Family and Goldman Sachs Endowed Chair of Professorship in Nursing at Boston College Connell School of Nursing; and faculty at New York University.

Fu’s research centers on cancer-related symptoms, pain, chronic illnesses, quality of life, and social determinants of health.

Fu is highly acclaimed, having been elected as a fellow of the American Academy of Nursing in 2012; serving as the leading co-chair for the Genomic Expert Panel for the academy from 2016 to 2019; and having been inducted into the International Nurse Researcher Hall of Fame, Sigma Theta Tau International, in 2017.

Fu holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from China, and a bachelor of science in nursing, a master of science, and doctorate in nursing science – all three are from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
