December 23 (Renewables Now) – A unit of Goldman Sachs Group Inc (NYSE:GS) has agreed to make a tax equity investment of up to USD 200 million (EUR 188m) in the first phase of a 531-MW wind project in Texas developed by Omega Energia SA (BVMF:MEGA3).

The Brazilian energy company announced this earlier in the week, saying that Goldman Sachs Lending Partners LLC has entered into a binding equity capital contribution deal to subscribe to an equity investment in special purpose vehicle Goodnight I TE Partners LLC. The investment will be backed by tax credits arising from the 265.5-MW Goodnight 1 project and will range from USD 180 million to USD 200 million.

Concurrently with this transaction, Omega Energia has also agreed on project financing of USD 40 million with a syndicate of banks consisting of MUFG Bank Ltd, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation and Cooperative Rabobank UA, New York Branch. The agreement also includes a bridge loan and a letter of credit supporting six months of debt service under the project financing.

The entire Goodnight wind power complex is expected to be completed next year.
