$50,000 grant from Bank of America supports Habitat for Humanity’s affordable housing project in Burien – The B-Town Blog

Habitat for Humanity Seattle-King & Kittitas Counties (Habitat SKC) has partnered with Bank of America (B of A) to bring affordable housing to Burien as part of the bank’s Global Build initiative.

With a recent $50,000 grant from Bank of America, work progresses on the Habitat SKKC Miller’s Creek project in Burien, which will provide safe, sustainable homes for 40 families when completed in the fall of 2025.

On Saturday, Oct. 26, 2024, Bank of America employees volunteered at the Miller’s Creek site, lending hands-on support for the construction of new homes. The homes are part of a Land Trust, ensuring affordability for generations to come, and are aimed at families earning less than 80% of the area median income (AMI), with mortgage payments capped at 35% of household income.

“We are grateful for this partnership with Bank of America, which enables us to bring stable, affordable housing to families in need,” said a representative from Habitat SKKC. “In a region where average home prices exceed $850,000, these homes provide a critical opportunity for families to achieve long-term financial stability and independence.”

Bank of America’s Global Build initiative, launched in 2014, is part of the bank’s commitment to affordable housing projects worldwide, including more than $3.5 million in funding this year for Habitat for Humanity projects. Through the program, Bank of America employees have joined Habitat affiliates across the U.S. and abroad in volunteer efforts to build and renovate homes and support housing stability for underserved communities.

Since partnering with Habitat in 1986, Bank of America has contributed more than $88 million to affordable housing projects, advancing its mission to create sustainable communities globally. Habitat SKKC continues to lead in affordable housing efforts locally, building homes, repairing properties for low-income residents, and advocating for housing equity in King and Kittitas counties.
