The fifth annual Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses Coaching Session with Bloomberg L.P. took place on Tuesday, November 20th in New York City.
The event connects graduates of the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses program with Bloomberg and Goldman Sachs employees for coaching on a business opportunity in areas such as human resources, finance, operations, marketing, strategy or IT.
This year, seventeen small business owners from ten cities across the United States, were joined by nearly 90 Goldman Sachs and Bloomberg employee-coaches.
The day kicked off with a panel conversation between Goldman Sachs Chairman Lloyd Blankfein and Michael Bloomberg. During the panel, it was announced that Mary T. Barra, General Motors Chairman and CEO, has joined the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses Advisory Council. The Council provides strategic oversight to the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses program, which delivers practical business education and access to capital for small businesses.
“Mary is a proven leader who has demonstrated a unique combination of insight and execution throughout her incredible career,” said Lloyd Blankfein. “Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses is thrilled to be able to benefit from her contributions as the program continues to help entrepreneurs create jobs and economic opportunity in Detroit and across the country.”
Also highlighted during the day’s activities was a survey of nearly 1,200 program participants aimed at understanding how small businesses innovate and utilize technology to grow their businesses. The findings revealed that, despite fewer resources and manpower, small businesses are constantly innovating and leveraging technology to grow.
