Over the past two years, Wells Fargo has been under fire for establishing millions of accounts without the owners’ permission and for putting staff under extreme pressure to reach impossible goals. Since online banking allows users to manage part of their financial needs without visiting a physical branch, these incidents have occurred at a time when large banks are undergoing significant transformation. Executives of Wells Fargo declared in 2017 that they would start reducing the number of branches.
