CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – University of North Carolina rower Molly Warden has received the 2025 Wells Fargo Postgraduate Scholarship, a $10,000 grant presented annually to a UNC senior student-athlete who plans to attend graduate school. Warden will be recognized at the baseball game versus Wake Forest on Saturday, April 12.
Warden is expected to graduate this spring with degrees in Biology and Hispanic Studies. She is a member of Phi Beta Kappa and the Sigma Delta Pi National Collegiate Hispanic Honor Society. Warden has twice been named a Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association Scholar Athlete and has earned three ACC Academic Honor Roll recognitions. In addition to her work in the classroom, Warden is also heavily involved in other ventures. She serves as a mentor in the Baddour Leadership Academy, has been a peer mentor in the biology department, and been an undergraduate classroom consultant assisting international teaching assistants. Warden worked to reinstate UNC’s Athlete Ally chapter supporting the LGBTQ+ community and has also volunteered at the Refugee Support Center in Carrboro, promoting cross-cultural communication between refugee families and their communities.
“We are so excited that Wells Fargo has chosen Molly for this postgraduate scholarship,” said rowing head coach Erin Neppel. “It’s great that they are recognizing her and what she’s done through rowing. She’s a great recipient. We’re very excited to see where she takes this and how she continues her education through this scholarship.”
Warden is a four-year member of the rowing team and earned the role of team captain this season. She competed with the varsity eight at the ACC Championships in each of the last two seasons. Last year, she helped the V8 win the Petite Final at the league regatta and was part of the group that placed second in the Petite Final in 2023.
“This means the world to me. I don’t even know where to begin,” Warden said. “I’ve been given so much by Carolina and to be able to pursue higher education beyond here is just the greatest opportunity. I would like to thank Cricket Lane for being a fantastic mentor in the athletic department, my coach Erin Neppel for showing me what hard work is and how to live my life, and of course, Wells Fargo for giving me this incredible opportunity.”
Wells Fargo has been an Official Sponsor of Carolina Athletics for more than 20 years. In addition to the annual postgraduate scholarship, the company also partners with the Richard A. Baddour Carolina Leadership Academy to teach all UNC student-athletes financial literacy and an understanding of basic money management concepts. The training is designed to help them make wise financial choices now and after they graduate.
“Our support for Molly and the University of North Carolina is part of Wells Fargo’s broader commitment to strengthen the communities we serve,” said Tiffany Lakey, Chief of Staff for Wells Fargo’s Corporate & Investment Bank. “As a company, work to make financial education more accessible, including supporting scholarships, and this work is directly connected to that.”
