On the r/banking subreddit, they explained that they had a direct deposit pending and all of their bills were due the week the account was shut down.

They wrote that they were left with no money for gas or rent and were faced with an eviction notice due to it.

Their car insurance went unpaid and their entire family’s phones were disconnected as the phone bill went unpaid as well.

Furthermore, the family was forced to go to a shelter for their meals.

“We feel insulted to be labeled as criminals, to be treated as such, and be put in such a position that has caused harm to my family for believing in this bank,” they wrote.

“I have never known what it’s like to be without money, especially all of a sudden, we are down on our luck after doing everything right. The only thing wrong we did was trusting Bank of America with our money, harming our well-being and mental health, [and] forcing me to lose the ability to provide for my family as well.”

Bank of America told the customer that they had sent a letter notifying them of the closure, but the Redditor said it was stolen so they never got it.

Ultimately, the bank never disclosed the reason behind why it closed the customer’s account.

Jorose said he was supposed to be sent a check but never received it, and believes it was also stolen. However, the bank wouldn’t resend the check for 121 days.

“Bank of America just does not care we are being evicted, that we have no food, no phone service, no means of paying for our bills, we are not asking for extra money or begging for anything. We just want our money back, our life back,” they wrote.

A SIMILAR STORY

Another Bank of America customer had a similar experience when their account was closed with no warning.

“They shut down my account without any notice or explanation… this is actually relatively common,” warned the shocked customer.

Elad Nehorai spent hours trying to access his money at a branch in Los Angeles, reported local CBS affiliate KCAL.

He wrote about the experience on X, formerly Twitter, saying: “They shut down my account [without] any notice or explanation, and we won’t be able to feed our family or pay medical expenses.

“We are staying here until it’s fixed. So far they have refused to even explain why they did this.”

Several people replied to his tweet to share similar experiences.

“I sympathize with you Elad, BoA did this to my mother last year and it took us forever to get it worked out,” one person wrote.

“Please let us know if we need to start up a fund drive for your family to tide you over until it gets resolved.”

Another user posted: “Bank of America, I don’t usually do this but Elad is a good guy with a young family.

“Someone needs to get to the bottom of this right now.”
