Here’s how to give and get school supplies in Broward, Palm Beach – South Florida Sun Sentinel

While summer is still in full swing, parents are preparing for the upcoming school year as they expect to face higher costs for all of the essential supplies their children will need to head back into the classroom. Start dates are Aug. 10 in Palm Beach County and Aug. 16 in Broward County. Organizations throughout South Florida are here to help by collecting and distributing supplies.

United Way of Broward County’s MISSION UNITED’s annual Backpack Giveaway for Military Veterans and their families at United Way of Broward County’s Jean and David Colker Center via drive-thru will be from 4-6 p.m. Aug. 10 at 1300 S. Andrews Ave., Fort Lauderdale. About 500 backpacks with school supplies will be distributed to families of active military and veterans, courtesy of ATT PIO, Broward County Bar Association Young Lawyers Section, The Castle Group, Centennial Bank, the Colker Family, Community Foundation of Broward, DHL, Marsh McLennan Agency, TD Bank, We Florida Financial, Wells Fargo and community donors. The backpacks will be filled with an assortment of school supplies including notebooks, paper, pencils, pens, highlighters, markers, crayons, glue, folders, index cards, scissors, erasers and more. The event is open to all military veterans, active duty service members, National Guard and Reserve members with children who are Broward County residents. Advance registration and proof of military service are required to receive a backpack. Supplies will be reserved/distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. Lang Realty’s community outreach arm Lang Cares will have a school supply drive to benefit Plumosa School of the Arts in Delray Beach and Lincoln Elementary School in Riviera Beach Aug. 1–31. New supplies will be collected at each Lang Realty sales office from Boca Raton to Jupiter. Needed supplies include regular-sized bookbags, composition books, earbuds/earphones, large-sized glue sticks, yellow highlighters, No. 2 pencils, reams of copy paper, packs of construction paper, hand sanitizer, Clorox wipes, Friskars scissors and crayons. BrightStar Credit Union School Supply Drive will help to provide all students with necessary supplies for the upcoming school year such as composition books, dry erase markers, rulers, 4-ounce glue bottles, washable markers, notebook paper, index cards, pink rectangular erasers and backpacks. Family Promise of North Central Palm Beach County Back-2-School Supplies Drive is collecting backpacks, tissue paper, college-, wide-ruled and graphing paper, organizers/planners, sticky notes, calculators, rulers, pencils, erasers, highlighters, ballpoint pens, crayons, colored pencils, markers, glue, tape, scissors, USB flash drives, binders, locks and bulletin boards. Ann Storck Center Pop A Bubble, Spread The Love is a donation drive to go toward items needed to kick off the 2022-2023 school year at the center, which is dedicated to enriching the lives of children and adults with developmental disabilities. Grover Corlew School Supply Drive is collecting donations through Aug. 10. Drop off items at any of the Florida-based real estate investment management group’s office buildings throughout Palm Beach and Broward counties. Call 954-516-7001 for locations. Supplies will be donated to both the Broward Education Foundation and the Education Foundation of Palm Beach County.
