HomeSafe names two to board of directors – Florida Weekly

HomeSafe, a local nonprofit with a mission to help South Florida victims of child abuse and domestic violence, recently appointed Bjarne Borg and Val Perez to its board of directors.

HomeSafe says it is the leading provider of prevention and intervention services, serving more than 14,000 infants, children, young adults, and families each year. HomeSafe is one of five specialized therapeutic group agencies in Florida — the only one in Southeast Florida — and currently cares for 50% of all the children these organizations serve.

Mr. Borg is a resident of Jupiter and received his formal education in Sweden, where he studied accounting and economics. He is the co-founder and executive chairman at Index Investment Group, a privately owned and entrepreneurial-driven company that specializes in developing business projects in real estate, renewable energy, and innovative equity investments.

Mr. Perez is a resident of West Palm Beach. Before entering the workforce, Perez graduated from the CBA Executive Banking School at Furman University. He also studied finance at the University of Arizona. Perez is the Head of Legendary Programs at TD Bank where he oversees and drives its #BeLegendary initiative, including the development of sales strategies, processes, and programs across all channels.

Palm Beach North Chamber hires 3

The Palm Beach North Chamber of Commerce has hired three new team members: Brian Elkins, director of events; Charlotte James, marketing and communications manager; and Sarah Nouis, membership development manager.

Prior to coming to the chamber, Mr. Elkins was with the Solid Waste Authority of Palm Beach County for more than 20 years, overseeing the administration of the county’s recycling program while honing his project management and event planning expertise.

Ms. James is a graduate of Florida Atlantic University with a B.S. in business marketing and is currently pursuing her master’s in business management and leadership from Western Governors University.

Originally from Minnesota, Ms. Nouis is a graduate of the University of Minnesota, Duluth with a degree in Education. She has spent much of her career in education. She worked as a civics teacher in Jupiter for 15 years before joining the Palm Beach North Chamber of Commerce.

Coffee shop receives first loan from program

The city of West Palm Beach has announced the first loan recipient through its Small and Minority/Woman Business COVID-19 Recovery Assistance Loan Program. The new loan program was established in February, in response to the need created by the pandemic and its impact on the local, small business community.

Jaime Lara, owner of Salento Coffee Shop LLC, met the loan criteria and worked with the city’s partners, Pathway Capital Funding Inc. and Valley National Bank, to receive funding. The Small and Minority/Woman Business COVID-19 Recovery Assistance Loan Program provides micro-loans in amounts between $5,000 and $20,000 per business to eligible small and minority/woman business enterprises to help facilitate short-term recovery finance gaps that are needed for a business to remain open or viable. Kramer named lead for home watch group

Shari Lynn Kramer of The Opal Group in Lake Worth has been appointed chapter lead for the National Home Watch Association’s Southwest Florida Chapter, which includes Key West, Dade, Broward, Palm Beach, Martin, Okeechobee, St. Lucie, Indian River, Brevard and Osceola counties. Herman Miller opens at The Square

Herman Miller, a part of the Miller-Knoll collective, has opened in West Palm Beach’s The Square.

It’s the furniture brand’s 18th location in the United States and its first in Florida.

While some retailers shift away from brick-and-mortar stores, MillerKnoll Global Retail — comprised of Herman Miller, Knoll, Design Within Reach, Fully, HAY and Muuto, has taken a different approach with its omni-channel expansion strategy.
