Lewis Preston Grogan Jr.
August 27, 1962 – February 6, 2023
Lewis Preston Grogan Jr., 60, of Los Angeles, Calif., transitioned to be with the Lord on Monday, February 6, 2023. Lewis was born to the late Patricia Proax and late Lewis “Preston” Grogan Sr. on August 27, 1962, in Roanoke, Virginia. He confessed his life to Christ at an early age and was baptized at Hill Street Baptist Church, with his uncle, the late James A. Marshall. He attended both William Fleming and Patrick Henry High Schools, ultimately graduating early from Patrick Henry in 1979. Post high school graduation, Lewis served in the Air Force for six years and furthered his education at Roanoke College, where he obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in History with a Minor in Physics in 1993.
Throughout his life, Lewis committed himself to being an advocate for his community and pursuing his passion for technology. His accolades include, but are not limited to, being the CEO/Founder of The Knowledge Connection, an audiovisual company that has worked for the Pentagon, CitiGroup, Goldman Sachs, the Federal Reserve Banks, among many others. Additionally, he served as the Director of Valley Character, Board Member for InStill Mindfulness, Board Member for Total Action Against Poverty (TAP), Treasurer of the Harrison Museum of African American Culture, President of the Northwest Neighborhood Improvement Council, and Grant Writer on Roanoke’s Community Development Block Grant Review Committee. His final role was for the Space Force as a Senior AV Technician via the Chickasaw Nation in Los Angeles, California.
Lewis was preceded in death by his mother, Patricia Proax; father, Lewis P. Grogan Sr.; brother, Michael Grogan; and grandmother, Dazzie Lee Cunningham. Loved by many, he leaves to cherish his memories, his daughter, Danielle Browley; son, Bernard Cooper; brother, Elliott Clark and sister-in-law, Falesia Clark; best friend, Patrick Kelley; special friends, Christine Sears, and Mary Gwenn Hale; cousins, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, many loved ones, and close friends.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 4, 2023, in the Hamlar-Curtis Chapel. Live Streaming will be available via the Hamlar-Curtis website.
